How to use the PDF to 200 KB
- Select your PDF; 200 KB is pre-selected.
- Tick 'Black & white' for scanned pages to improve clarity at this size.
- Click Compress PDF.
- Download and upload it to your portal.
A practical limit for documents
200 KB is a very common limit on university admission portals, recruitment applications and state services. It comfortably holds one or two colour pages, or three to five black-and-white pages, with clearly readable text. That makes it suitable for most certificates, mark sheets, experience letters and identity proofs.
How many pages fit?
- 1–2 pages in colour: fits easily with sharp text and visible stamps.
- 3–5 pages in black & white: usually fits with readable text.
- More pages: may need a larger limit, splitting, or removing unnecessary pages first with organize PDF.
Making the scan compress well
Compression works best when pages are clean. When scanning with a phone, place the document on a contrasting surface, avoid shadows, and crop to the page. If you’re starting from photos rather than a PDF, create the PDF with Image to PDF (with “Smaller file” on), then compress it here if it’s still over 200 KB.
How we measure 200 KB
Results stay under 200,000 bytes. Some portals count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes (making the limit 204,800 bytes) and some as 1,000; staying under the smaller figure means your file is accepted by both.
Keep your original
To hit the size, pages become optimised images and text is no longer selectable. The original stays untouched on your device.
Private
Processing happens in your browser. For stricter limits use 100 KB; for bigger documents 500 KB.
Checklist before uploading
- Open the downloaded PDF and zoom into the smallest text, seals and signatures.
- Confirm the page count is complete and in the right order.
- Check the file size shown in your file manager is under 200 KB.
- Rename it sensibly (for example “name-marksheet.pdf”) if the portal shows file names to reviewers.
If you’re short on time before a deadline, compress first, then check; you can always rerun it with black and white on.
