How to use the Image to 200 KB
- Select your image or scanned page.
- The tool compresses it to just under 200 KB.
- Zoom into the preview to confirm the text is sharp.
- Download the JPG.
200 KB: the document-friendly limit
A 200 KB cap is common for certificates, degree documents, domicile and caste certificates, and ID proofs on university and state government portals. It leaves enough space for a full A4 page at a readable resolution, provided the image is cropped and well lit.
How much detail fits in 200 KB?
A cleanly photographed A4 page at around 1,200 × 1,700 pixels usually fits in 200 KB with crisp text. Colour stamps and signatures remain visible. If your original photo includes a lot of background or shadow, the tool spends bytes on those too, so crop to the paper first with our cropper.
Tips for scanning with your phone
- Place the document on a dark, plain surface so the edges are easy to crop.
- Hold the phone parallel to the page to avoid a slanted, trapezoid shape.
- Turn off flash; it creates glare on glossy certificates.
- If the page came out sideways, fix it with rotate image before compressing.
JPG or PDF for certificates?
If the portal accepts PDF and your certificate has two pages, create one PDF with Image to PDF and shrink it with compress PDF to 200 KB. For a single page, a JPG from this tool is simplest.
Accurate, safe and private
The output stays under 200,000 bytes, which passes whether the site counts a kilobyte as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Processing happens in your browser; your documents are never uploaded or stored.
Troubleshooting blurry text
If small print looks soft at 200 KB, the photo probably includes a lot of background or was taken from a distance. Retake it closer so the page fills the frame, or crop tighter. Converting the scan to black and white is not available here, but the PDF compressor has a black-and-white option that keeps text crisp; use it if the portal accepts PDF. And if your original was sent through WhatsApp, use the original file instead, because WhatsApp already compresses images heavily.
