Why count working days?
Many deadlines and durations in India are in working days: bank clearing, government service delivery timelines, delivery estimates, salary calculations for contractors, notice periods in some companies, and project planning. Counting them by hand is tedious and error-prone.
Saturday rules
- Working day: six-day weeks, common in many businesses, factories and schools.
- All Saturdays off: five-day weeks, typical for IT companies and central government offices.
- 2nd and 4th Saturday off: the rule followed by banks in India, where other Saturdays are working days.
Sundays are always treated as non-working days.
Adding holidays
Enter holiday dates in YYYY-MM-DD format, one per line or separated by commas, such as national holidays, festival holidays in your state, or company holidays. Holidays that fall on a Sunday or an off-Saturday are not double-counted. Public holiday lists differ by state and organisation; use the official list for your employer or your state’s bank holiday list.
Start and end dates
By default both the start and end dates are counted if they are working days. Untick “Count the end date” when you need the days before a deadline.
Example
September 2026 has 30 days and 4 Sundays. With all Saturdays working, that’s 26 working days. With banks’ 2nd and 4th Saturdays off and one holiday, it’s 23.

Does it include Indian public holidays automatically? No. Holidays differ by state, company and bank, so add the dates that apply to you. Can I count working days for a whole year?
