Count the exact number of days, weeks, months and years between any two dates.
How to use the Date Difference
- Enter the start date and the end date.
- Tick 'Include the end date' if both days should count.
- Read the difference in days, weeks, months and years.
Counting days between dates
Whether you’re counting days until a deadline, the length of a project, notice period, rent period, pregnancy weeks or the duration of a trip, doing it by hand across months with 28, 30 and 31 days is error-prone. This calculator gives the exact figure instantly.
Including or excluding the end date
By default, the calculator counts the days between the dates: from 1 to 10 January is 9 days. Tick “Include the end date” to count both the first and last day, which gives 10 days. Use the inclusive count for things like leave (1–10 January is 10 days of leave), hotel stays counted by days, or event durations; use the default for elapsed time.
Different ways to express the gap
- Years, months and days: calendar-accurate, like an age.
- Weeks and days: handy for pregnancy, training plans and projects.
- Approximate months: days divided by the average month length.
- Hours: total days × 24.
Order doesn’t matter
If the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator swaps them, so you always get a positive difference.

- Rent: tenancy from 5 January to 4 April is 89 days elapsed.
- Exam countdown: today to your exam date gives the days left to prepare.
- Pregnancy: from the first day of the last period to today gives weeks and days, though the due date calculator is more convenient for that.
