How to use the Attendance

  1. Enter the classes you've attended and the total held so far.
  2. Set the required attendance (often 75%).
  3. Read how many you can skip or must attend to reach it.

The 75% rule

Most Indian colleges, universities and boards require a minimum attendance, commonly 75%, to sit end-semester or board exams. Falling short can mean being detained or needing a medical exemption. Keeping a running check helps you plan leave and avoid last-minute panic.

How it’s calculated

If you’re above the requirement: the number of classes you can miss is the largest number that keeps attended ÷ (total + missed) at or above the requirement. With 45 of 50 attended and 75% required, you can miss 10 more classes (45 ÷ 60 = 75%).

If you’re below: the number you must attend is the smallest number of consecutive classes that brings you up to the requirement. With 30 of 50 attended, you need to attend the next 30 classes (60 ÷ 80 = 75%).

Tips

  • Track each subject separately if your college calculates attendance per subject.
  • Labs and practicals often have their own attendance rules.
  • Don’t plan to use your entire “skip budget”: illness and emergencies happen.
  • If you fall short due to illness, ask early about medical certificates and condonation rules. See the medical certificate format and the leave application generator.

Different requirements

Change the required percentage for your institution: some need 80% or 85%, and some programmes have different rules for theory and practicals. The maths works for any requirement. For your marks, try the marks percentage calculator.

Examples

  • 40 of 50 attended (80%), 75% required: you can miss 3 more classes.
  • 35 of 50 attended (70%), 75% required: attend the next 10 classes.
  • 60 of 75 attended (80%), 85% required: attend the next 25 classes.

Update the numbers each week to stay on track.

Quick answer

Do cancelled classes count? Usually not; enter only classes that were actually held. Also check whether your college counts late arrivals as absences.
