- Choose your photo from the gallery or camera.
- The 20 KB target is applied automatically.
- Check the new size, dimensions and preview.
- Download and upload the JPG to your application.
The most common photo limit in India
“Photograph: JPG, 20 KB to 50 KB” or “maximum 20 KB” appears in thousands of notifications, from staff selection and bank recruitment to state public service commissions and university admissions. It is enough for a clear face at passport dimensions, but far smaller than what phones produce, which is why so many applicants get stuck at the upload step.
Getting a clear face under 20 KB
- Frame it like a passport photo. Head and top of shoulders, face centred, plain light background. Use the passport photo maker to crop to 3.5 × 4.5 cm.
- Good light matters. Face a window; avoid harsh shadows. Clean, even lighting compresses better than grainy indoor shots.
- Don't upscale small photos. Start from the original camera image, not a WhatsApp-forwarded copy.
What about minimum sizes and pixel dimensions?
Many notifications say both “20–50 KB” and something like “200 × 230 pixels”. This page focuses on getting under 20 KB. If your form fixes the pixel size and a minimum KB too, the exam photo resizer produces exact dimensions and keeps the file inside the allowed range, padding it harmlessly if it falls below the minimum.
Why our 20 KB is 20,000 bytes
Portals disagree on whether 1 KB means 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. We use the stricter 1,000-byte rule so the file passes on every site. Your file manager may display it as 19.5 KB; that is the same file measured in 1,024-byte units.
Your photo stays on your device
All processing happens in your browser. We never receive your image, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. Need another size? Try 50 KB or set any value in the KB resizer.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Uploading a photo of a printed photo, which looks blurry and grainy after compression.
- Using a selfie with the phone held close, which distorts the face.
- Forgetting to crop, which leaves most of the 20 KB spent on the background.
