How “fonts” work in bios
Apps like Instagram and WhatsApp don’t let you choose fonts. These styles are actually special Unicode characters, mathematical and decorative letters that look like styled alphabets. Because they are real characters, you can copy and paste them almost anywhere: social bios, usernames in games, captions, YouTube titles and messages.
Available styles
- Bold, italic and bold italic for emphasis.
- Script and bold script cursive styles for names and quotes.
- Fraktur (gothic) and double-struck for a distinctive look.
- Sans and monospace for clean, techy text.
- Circled, fullwidth and small caps for decoration.
- Strikethrough, underline and upside down for fun effects.
Good to know
- These styles apply to English letters and numbers. Hindi and other scripts stay unchanged.
- Accessibility: screen readers may read styled characters one by one or skip them. Avoid them for important information, and don’t style your whole bio.
- Search: styled names may not appear in searches for the normal spelling. Keep your real name in plain text somewhere.
- A few older phones may show boxes for rare characters; bold and italic have the widest support.
More text tools
Fix capitalisation with the case converter, count characters for bios with the word counter, or write in Hindi with the Hindi typing tool. Everything runs in your browser.
Examples
- Instagram bio name: 𝐑𝐚𝐡𝐮𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 in bold for a clean, strong look.
- Gaming username: double-struck or fraktur styles stand out in leaderboards.
- Captions: a single word in italics or bold for emphasis.
- Fun messages: upside-down text for a playful WhatsApp reply.
Use one style per line so text stays readable, and keep important words in plain text.
Quick answer
Can I use fancy text in my username everywhere? Many apps allow it, but some sites restrict usernames to plain letters and numbers. Keep a plain version ready.
