How to use the SSC Photo Resize

  1. The SSC preset is already selected. Choose Photo, Signature or another document.
  2. Check the required dimensions, KB range and last-verified date in the yellow box.
  3. Upload your image, then drag and zoom so it fits the frame.
  4. Click Create and download the JPG ready for the SSC form.

SSC photo and signature requirements

The Staff Selection Commission runs some of India’s largest recruitment exams, including CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, CPO, JE and Stenographer. Applications are made on the SSC website through a one-time registration, where you upload a photograph and signature that are then reused for later applications. SSC has also moved to live photo capture in some cycles, so read the current instructions carefully: if a live photo is required, you may still need a correctly sized signature.

The dimensions, file size range, format and DPI shown in the tool come from our admin-maintained preset for Staff Selection Commission exams (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD, CPO and others), together with the date they were last checked and a link to the official website. Requirements can change with every notification, so compare them with the notification for your exam cycle before uploading. If a value differs, pick the custom option in the exam resizer or tell us through the contact page so we can update the preset.

How the resizer meets every rule

  • Exact pixels: the image is cropped to the required shape and resized to the exact width and height, never stretched.
  • KB range: the tool finds the highest JPEG quality under the maximum; if the result is below the minimum, it adds harmless padding bytes so the portal accepts it.
  • Portal-safe sizes: the maximum is treated as 1,000-byte kilobytes and the minimum as 1,024-byte kilobytes, so the file passes whichever definition the site uses.
  • DPI: written into the file when the preset specifies it.

Photo tips that prevent rejection

  • Recent colour photo, face centred, both ears visible where possible, neutral expression.
  • Plain light background, even light, no shadows, no caps or dark glasses.
  • Don’t upload a photo of a printed photo or a selfie with a tilted head.

SSC-specific advice

SSC compares the uploaded photo with your appearance at the exam centre and during document verification, so use a recent photo without caps or glasses. Keep your registration photo and signature files saved; you will need the same details in later SSC applications. If the portal rejects the image for being too small or large, reopen this page, confirm the numbers against the current notice and recreate the file.

Your documents stay private

All processing happens in your browser. Your photo and signature are never uploaded to our servers. After downloading, confirm the file with the photo checker if you want a second look before submitting.

Frequently asked questions

What is the SSC photo size?
Our preset shows the pixel size and KB range last used, with the date checked. Confirm with the current SSC notification before uploading.
Does SSC need a live photo?
Some recent SSC cycles used live photo capture during registration. Follow the instructions on the SSC portal for your exam.
Can I use the same photo for CGL and CHSL?
SSC uses your one-time registration details across exams, but check each notification in case new photos are required.
My SSC signature is rejected. What should I do?
Choose Signature in the tool, check the KB range and recreate it. Sign larger with a dark pen for clearer results.
