How to use the Signature BG Remover

  1. Photograph your signature on white paper in good light.
  2. Upload it; the background is removed instantly.
  3. Adjust the strength slider until the paper disappears but strokes stay solid.
  4. Choose original, black or blue ink and download the PNG.

What a transparent signature is for

A transparent PNG signature has no white box around it, so it sits naturally on letterheads, invoices, PDFs and Word documents, even over lines or coloured backgrounds. It is ideal for rent receipts, invoices, offer letters and forms you fill in digitally.

How the background removal works

The tool looks at the brightness of every pixel. Anything lighter than the threshold, the paper, becomes fully transparent. Darker pixels, the ink, stay visible, and pixels near the threshold fade smoothly so the edges of your strokes look natural rather than jagged. Because it runs on simple brightness, it is fast and works entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Getting a clean result

  • Light evenly. Shadows across the page are darker than the paper and may survive; move the slider right to remove them.
  • Use a dark pen. Light blue or pencil strokes may fade; move the slider left to keep them.
  • Recolour if needed. Choose “Black” or “Blue” to give the whole signature one consistent ink colour, which also hides slight colour tints from phone cameras.
  • Crop to the signature is on by default so the PNG has no empty margins.

Using your signature

Place it on a PDF with Sign PDF, or add it to documents made with our invoice and rent receipt generators. For exam uploads, which usually need a JPG of fixed size, use the signature resizer instead.

A word on security

A signature image is not a legal digital signature, and anyone who has the file can paste it. Keep the PNG private, don’t post it publicly, and use certificate-based digital signatures where the law requires them.

PNG size tips

The transparent PNG is usually small. If you need it smaller, crop tightly and keep the result at the size you’ll actually use; there’s no benefit to a signature wider than a few hundred pixels on an A4 document.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my signature have grey patches around it?
Those are shadows darker than the paper. Move the strength slider to the right until they disappear.
Can I use the PNG in Microsoft Word?
Yes. Insert it as a picture; the transparent background lets the text or lines behind it show through.
Can I upload the transparent PNG to exam forms?
Most exam portals require a JPG of fixed size. Use the signature resizer for those.
Does it work with blue ink?
Yes. Keep 'Original' ink, or choose 'Blue' to make the colour uniform.
