How to use the Gold Loan Calculator
- Enter the net weight of your gold, excluding stones, and choose its purity.
- Enter today's 24K gold rate per gram from your bank or jeweller.
- Enter the interest rate and tenure offered by the lender.
- See the maximum loan, the EMI and the interest-only payment.
How a gold loan amount is calculated
The lender values your jewellery by its net gold content: weight without stones, multiplied by purity (22 karat is 22/24 pure gold) and the gold rate. It then lends a percentage of that value, called the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio.
RBI gold loan LTV rules from April 2026
The Reserve Bank of India's directions on lending against gold and silver, in force from 1 April 2026, set the maximum LTV by loan size: up to 85% for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% for loans above ₹2.5 lakh and up to ₹5 lakh, and 75% for larger loans. The LTV must be maintained through the loan, so if gold prices fall sharply the lender may ask you to repay part of the loan or pledge more gold. Lenders also value gold using a benchmark price, often the lower of recent average and previous-day prices, so their valuation can be a little below the rate you enter.
EMI or interest-only?
Many gold loans let you pay only the interest each month and repay the principal at the end (bullet repayment). This keeps monthly payments low, but the full amount is due at maturity. An EMI repays principal and interest together. The calculator shows both so you can choose.
Before you pledge
- Compare interest rates; banks are often cheaper than NBFCs.
- Ask about processing fees, valuation charges and penalties for late payment.
- Repay on time: unpaid gold loans can end in an auction of your jewellery.
- After closure, lenders must return your gold within 7 working days under the RBI rules.
Compare the cost with an unsecured loan using the personal loan EMI calculator, or see a full repayment schedule with the EMI calculator.
Silver loans too
The same RBI rules also cover loans against silver jewellery and coins, with limits on how much can be pledged.
