How to use the Age Limit Checker

  1. Enter your date of birth and the cut-off date from the notification.
  2. Enter the minimum age and the maximum age for the General category.
  3. Select your category; add any other relaxation you're entitled to.
  4. Read your eligibility and the allowed date-of-birth window.

How age limits and relaxation work

Government recruitment notifications set a minimum and maximum age for the General category, measured on a cut-off date. Reserved categories and some groups get extra years on the upper limit. Under central government rules the typical relaxations are 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 5 years for SC and ST, 10 years for persons with benchmark disabilities (more when combined with OBC or SC/ST), and relaxation for ex-servicemen after deducting military service. State governments and individual exams may set different rules.

The category list in this tool is maintained from our admin panel. Always check the relaxation table in your notification, as it overrides general rules.

Reading the result

The tool shows your exact age on the cut-off date and whether it falls within the limits, including your relaxation. It also shows the eligible date-of-birth window, which is how most notifications state the rule, for example “born not before 02.08.1996 and not after 01.08.2008”. Being on the boundary counts: if you turn the maximum age plus one on the day after the cut-off, you are still eligible.

Example

For an exam with 18–27 years as on 1 August 2026, a General candidate must be born between 2 August 1998 and 1 August 2008. An OBC candidate with 3 years’ relaxation can be born as early as 2 August 1995. A candidate born on 1 August 1998 would complete 28 on the cut-off date and would not be eligible as General.

Other relaxations

Use the “other relaxation” field for cases like departmental candidates, widows and divorced women, domicile-based relaxations or specific state rules. The tool adds it to the category relaxation. For simply knowing your age on a date, use the age as on date calculator.

Disclaimer

This is a calculation aid, not an eligibility decision. The recruiting body’s notification and its interpretation are final.

Frequently asked questions

How much age relaxation does OBC get?
Typically 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) in central government jobs. Check your notification for the exact rule.
Can relaxations be combined?
Some can, such as PwD with OBC or SC/ST, which is shown as separate categories. Add any other relaxation in the extra field.
Is the minimum age relaxed too?
Relaxations normally apply to the upper age limit only.
What does the date-of-birth window mean?
If you were born on or between those dates, your age meets the limits on the cut-off date.
Is this result final?
No. It's a calculation aid; the notification and recruiting authority decide eligibility.
