How to use the UPI QR

  1. Enter your UPI ID (like name@okhdfcbank) and payee name.
  2. Optionally set a fixed amount and a note such as an invoice number.
  3. Customise colours or add a logo, then scan the preview to test.
  4. Download as PNG or SVG and print or share it.

How UPI QR codes work

A UPI QR code contains a payment link in the standard upi://pay format defined by NPCI. When someone scans it with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or a bank app, the app fills in your UPI ID and name, and the amount if you set one. The money goes directly from their bank account to yours. No payment gateway, no fees, and we never see the transaction.

Fixed or open amount?

  • Open amount (leave it 0): best for a shop counter, tuition fees or donations, where the payer enters the amount.
  • Fixed amount: best for a specific invoice, event ticket or product. The payer only confirms.

Add a note like an invoice number or order ID so you can match payments in your bank statement.

Finding your UPI ID

Open your UPI app and look under your profile or bank account settings. It looks like yourname@bank or mobilenumber@upi. Double-check it: a typo sends money to someone else or fails.

Printing tips

  • Print at least 3–4 cm wide so phones can scan from a normal distance.
  • Keep dark colours on a light background; avoid low-contrast designs.
  • If you add a logo, the code automatically uses higher error correction; test scanning before printing many copies.
  • SVG downloads stay sharp at any size for banners and standees.

Stay safe

Scanning a QR code to receive money is never needed; fraudsters sometimes send QR codes claiming you’ll receive money, but scanning always sends money. Test your code with a small payment before sharing it. You can check any QR with our QR scanner. Use the code on invoices made with the invoice generator. Everything runs in your browser.

Quick answer

Are there limits on UPI payments? Banks and apps set daily limits, commonly around ₹1 lakh for person-to-person payments, with higher limits for some categories.
