Your files never leave your device. Processing happens in your browser.
How to use the Name & Date on Photo
- Upload a recent photo, cropped to your head and shoulders.
- Type your name exactly as in your application and the date.
- Choose a white strip below the photo or text over the bottom edge, and adjust sizes.
- Download the JPG, then resize it for the form if needed.
Which exams need name and date on the photo?
UPSC has, in several recent notifications, asked candidates to upload a photograph with their name and the date of taking the photo printed clearly below it. Some other recruitment bodies and institutions ask for the same so they can check the photo is recent and belongs to the applicant. Always read your current notification: the exact rule, placement and date format may change from year to year.
How to make it correctly
- Use a recent photo, usually taken within the last 10 days to 3 months depending on the notice.
- Write your name exactly as entered in the application, including initials.
- Use the actual date the photo was taken, commonly as DD/MM/YYYY.
- Keep it legible: black text on a white strip is the clearest. The tool shrinks the text automatically if a long name doesn’t fit.
Strip below or over the photo?
A white strip below the photo keeps your face fully visible and matches the most common sample images. “Over the bottom” keeps the original height, useful when a form fixes dimensions strictly, but make sure the text does not cover your chin or shoulders.
After adding the text
The result is usually larger than the form allows. Resize it to the required pixels and KB with the UPSC photo resizer or the general exam resizer. If you still need to crop your photo, do that first with the cropper, since the name strip should sit under the final crop.
Private
The text is drawn on your photo in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Checklist before uploading
- Name spelled exactly as in the application, including initials.
- Date is the actual date the photo was taken and in the required format.
- Text is black and clearly readable when zoomed in.
- Your face is fully visible and not covered by the text.
