Which forms need a thumb impression?
Bank recruitment exams conducted by IBPS and SBI ask for a scanned left thumb impression along with the photo, signature and declaration. NTA exams such as NEET have asked for finger and thumb impressions too. The image must be clear enough for the ridges to be visible and within tight pixel and KB limits.
How to take a good thumb impression
- Use a fresh blue or black ink pad. Stamp pad ink works; avoid pens.
- Press the left thumb (unless the form asks otherwise) on the pad, then roll it gently on plain white paper.
- Make two or three impressions and pick the clearest, with visible ridges and no smudges.
- Photograph it from directly above in daylight, or scan it at 200–300 DPI.
Left-handed candidates and those without a left thumb should follow the notification’s instructions, which usually allow the right thumb.
What the resizer does
Choose the exam preset and position the impression in the frame. The tool whitens the paper so the ink stands out, resizes to the exact pixels, compresses within the KB range, pads the file if it’s too small, and writes the DPI where specified. The requirements box shows when the preset was last verified and links to the official site so you can double-check.
Related uploads
Bank exams usually also need a handwritten declaration: the thumb and declaration resizer handles both. For the photo and signature, use the IBPS or SBI pages. Everything is processed in your browser; your fingerprint image is never uploaded.
Common problems
- Too dark or blotchy: too much ink; press lightly on the pad and try again.
- Too faint: not enough ink or pressure; re-ink the thumb.
- Partial print: roll the thumb from one side to the other so the full pad is captured.
- Wrong orientation: keep the tip of the thumb pointing up, as it would appear on a form.
