Mid-market rates, updated daily

The converter uses mid-market exchange rates, the midpoint between buying and selling rates in global currency markets, refreshed once a day from a public rates provider. The time of the last update is shown under the result, in IST.

Why your bank’s rate is different

Banks, card networks, forex cards, remittance services and airport money changers all add a margin to the mid-market rate, and some charge fees on top. That’s why the rate you actually get is usually a little worse than the one shown here. When sending money abroad or buying forex, compare the total amount received after all fees, not just the advertised rate.

Popular conversions from India

  • INR ↔ USD: online shopping, freelancing income, US education.
  • INR ↔ AED and SAR: remittances from the Gulf.
  • INR ↔ GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD: study abroad, travel and family abroad.
  • INR ↔ SGD, JPY, CNY, NPR, BDT: travel and trade in Asia.

Sending and spending abroad

  • International card spends and foreign remittances may attract TCS above certain limits under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme; check current rules.
  • Pay in the local currency when a foreign card machine offers “pay in INR”; dynamic currency conversion is usually more expensive.
  • Freelancers receiving foreign payments should compare platform conversion rates with bank rates.

Reliability

If the rates can’t be refreshed, the tool says so instead of showing guessed numbers. Use these rates for estimates and planning, not for trading. For other conversions, see the unit converter or lakh–crore converter.

Quick answers

What does “mid-market rate” mean? The fair midpoint between buy and sell prices, without any bank margin. Can I convert between two foreign currencies? Yes, for example USD to AED.

Tip: for large transfers, check a few providers on the same day; small differences in rate add up quickly on big amounts.
