Marks Percentage Calculator
Add your subject marks to find the total percentage, best-of-five and division.
How to use the Marks %
- Enter marks and maximum marks for each subject.
- Add or remove subjects as needed.
- Read the total, percentage and best-of-five figure.
How percentage is calculated
Percentage = (total marks obtained ÷ total maximum marks) × 100. If you scored 420 out of 500, your percentage is 84%. When subjects have different maximum marks (for example 80 theory + 20 practical, or 100 and 50), add up all marks obtained and all maximum marks before dividing. Don’t average the subject percentages.
Best of five
CBSE and many state boards calculate the Class 10 and 12 percentage for admissions from the best five subjects, usually including English. When you enter more than five subjects, the calculator also shows your best-of-five percentage. Check your board’s and college’s rules on which subjects must be included.
Division
- First division: 60% and above (often “with distinction” at 75%+).
- Second division: 45–59%.
- Third division / pass: 33–44% for most school boards.
Universities may use different cut-offs; check your institution’s rules.
Where you need it
- College admission forms asking for aggregate percentage.
- Eligibility checks for competitive exams (for example, 50% in Class 12).
- Scholarships with minimum percentage criteria.
- Tracking your progress across tests in a term.

Example
| Subject | Marks | Out of |
|---|---|---|
| English | 78 | 100 |
| Hindi | 85 | 100 |
| Maths | 92 | 100 |
| Science | 88 | 100 |
| Social Science | 81 | 100 |
| Computer | 95 | 100 |
Total is 519 out of 600, or 86.5%. The best five (dropping English, the lowest) is 441 out of 500, or 88.2%; but many boards require English in the best five, which would give 87.1% here, so check your board’s rule.
Quick answers
Are grace marks included? Use the marks printed on your final mark sheet. Are internal assessment marks included? Yes, if they are part of each subject’s total on the mark sheet. Check each subject's maximum marks carefully.
