How to use the Photo Checker

  1. Pick an exam preset or enter custom requirements.
  2. Upload the file you plan to submit.
  3. Review each check: dimensions, aspect ratio, file size, format and DPI.
  4. If anything fails, fix it with the exam resizer and check again.

Why check before uploading?

Portals often reject files with vague messages like “invalid image” or “file size not in range”, sometimes only after you’ve filled the whole form. Worse, some accept a slightly wrong file that later causes a problem at document verification. Checking the file first saves time and stress, especially near deadlines when portals are overloaded.

What the checker looks at

  • Dimensions: the exact pixel width and height compared with the requirement.
  • Aspect ratio: whether the shape matches, so the portal won’t squash your face if it resizes the image.
  • File size: within the minimum and maximum KB. Because portals disagree on 1 KB = 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, borderline sizes get a warning rather than a pass.
  • Format: whether it is a real JPG, not a PNG or HEIC renamed to .jpg.
  • DPI: the resolution stored in the file, when the preset specifies one.

Understanding the result

A green result means the file meets every check. Amber means it probably works but something is borderline; read the warning. Red means at least one rule is broken and the portal is likely to reject it. The Fix it button takes you to the exam resizer, which produces a file meeting all rules at once.

Custom requirements

If your form isn’t in the list, choose “Custom requirements” and type the width, height, KB range and DPI from the notification. This works for any application: passports, visas, scholarships or college admissions.

What it can’t check

The checker verifies technical specifications, not whether the photo is recent, the background is plain, or your face is clearly visible. Review those yourself against the notification. Your file is checked in your browser and never uploaded.

Tip

Run the checker again on the exact file you’ll upload, after any renaming or editing, since some apps re-save images and change their size.

Frequently asked questions

Can it tell if my photo will be accepted?
It checks technical rules (pixels, KB, format, DPI). Content rules like background and expression must be checked by you.
Why is my file size a warning, not a pass?
It's between the 1,000-byte and 1,024-byte definitions of KB, so some portals may reject it. Resizing slightly smaller removes the risk.
My file ends in .jpg but fails the format check.
It may actually be a PNG or HEIC renamed to .jpg. Convert it with the image converter or exam resizer.
Can I check against custom numbers?
Yes. Choose 'Custom requirements' and enter the values from your notification.
