Your files never leave your device. Processing happens in your browser.
How to use the Image to Text
- Choose the language in your image, such as Hindi + English.
- Upload a photo, screenshot or scan of the text.
- Wait a few seconds while the text is read on your device.
- Edit the result if needed, then copy it or download a .txt file.
What this image to text tool does
Optical character recognition (OCR) reads the letters in a picture and turns them into text you can copy, edit and search. It saves you retyping notes, notices, book pages, forms or screenshots. This tool supports more than 25 languages: English; Hindi and other Indian scripts such as Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Urdu (each paired with English so mixed text is read in one pass); and Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Private by design
The text recognition runs in your browser. Your image is never uploaded to our server. The first time you use a language, your browser downloads that language's data (1–3 MB) and keeps it, so later scans start faster.
Tips for accurate results
- Pick the right language. Hindi text needs Hindi selected; choose "Hindi + English" for mixed notices.
- Shoot straight and sharp. Hold the phone parallel to the page, in good light, without shadows or glare.
- Crop to the text. Remove borders, pictures and other pages with the crop tool first.
- Printed text works best. Neat handwriting sometimes works, but results vary.
- Check numbers and names. OCR can confuse similar characters such as 0 and O, so proofread important details.
What to do with the text
Paste it into a document, email or WhatsApp message, or count it with the word counter. If you are working with old Hindi documents typed in Kruti Dev, use the Kruti Dev to Unicode converter. To turn scanned pages into a PDF instead, use image to PDF.
Common uses in India
Students copy notes and textbook paragraphs into study documents. Job seekers copy the eligibility and fee details from a recruitment notice screenshot. Office staff turn old printed letters and circulars into editable text, and shopkeepers copy product lists from photographed bills. For long documents, scan one page at a time and paste each result in order.
